At least 15,000 DA supporters are expected to attend the gathering, with its leader, John Steenhuisen, scheduled to take the podium in the afternoon.

Thousands of DA supporters from various parts of the province are queued outside the venue, as gates are expected to open soon.

A convoy of buses transporting Democrats are arriving to observe the party’s final submissions to voters.

Johannesburg council speaker and DA member Vasco da Gama, who travelled to the stadium by bus with the party’s supporters, said he’s confident the party will win Gauteng.

“We definitely have a chance in Gauteng and in some provinces throughout South Africa. We have been battling for 30 years - our people are sitting without housing, there are no trains anymore, there are no South African aeroplanes anymore.”

Steenhuisen is expected to address the rally at 2pm.
