Dolley-Major is among those speaking out against the 'lenient' bail conditions of a prominent local musician accused of grooming and raping a minor.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was released on bail following his arrest in 2020.

The married father of two is charged with grooming the youngster, who was 14 when the alleged abuse began.

He is allegedly still teaching music to kids and performing with young people.

Dolley-Major and Lawrence say this is unacceptable, given the charges against him.

"It appears he has very liberal bail conditions to perform and teaches as he pleases."
- Theo Lawrence, Community activist
"The charges involved here are sexual grooming of children, sexual assault and rape, so it involves minors, yet he's currently working with minors and performing with minors."
- Theo Lawrence, Community activist

Lawrence claims the accused was most recently seen performing with a 'young band' at an event at the Cape Town City Hall over the weekend.

Dolley-Major has been attending the man's trial, in a closed court, in April.

She says the victim had requested that she be allowed in court as his 'spiritual support'.

"These are serious charges being bought against this person, of a minor... he should NOT be working with minors and the NPA has once again failed the children."
- Reverend June Dolley-Major, Activist
