South Africans are discerning when it comes to bakkies, knowing exactly what they want and, more importantly, what they don't.
This week, it's a battle of the bakkies as we compare the latest offerings from Isuzu and Ford.
ISUZU
According to Page, if you're looking to enter the world of double cabs, Isuzu is a great place to start.
With prices starting at around R600k, Isuzu offers a competitively priced option compared to other brands.
For example, the DDI HR L starts at R555 900.
Page notes that this bakkie is built to work, as reflected in its design and durability.

Focusing on the X-Rider, it was first introduced in 2016 and reintroduced in 2024.
Prices start at R646,000.
According to Page, the X-Rider has all the features you want in a bakkie, including:
- A modern design
- 1.9L turbo diesel engine
- LED daytime running lights
- LED front fog lamps
Page adds that this is a good option if you're carrying lightweight goods.

FORD
If your budget is around a million rand and you're looking for luxury, the Ford Ranger Platinum is an excellent choice.
Starting at R1.1 million, Page says it's perfect for work, family, and play.
Key features include:

- Premium B&O sound system with 10 speakers
- 12-inch center touchscreen display with SYNC 4A infotainment system
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Wireless charging
- 360-degree camera system
