Zain Johnson speaks to Leigh-Anne Singer, Fedhasa Cape Chairperson.
Listen below.
Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille reported a 48.9% spike in tourism since 2022.
This is due to efforts by the public and private sectors, separately and collaboratively, says Singer.
“We can run the best possible hotels with beautiful restaurants and activities but if our guests cannot get here due to visa issues or flights, we have a problem… It’s the sweet spot between public and private tourism, and it has done really well.”
- Leigh-Anne Singer, Cape Chairperson – Fedhasa
The department is hoping to get a further long-term boost with the implementation of its Global Tourism Brand Campaign.
Singer hopes this will drive tourism to more than just the popular cities.
“When you land at Cape Town International, you spend some time in Cape Town but also visit all the other cities around it… that regional spread has an incredible economic impact on the communities and businesses that live in that area.”
- Leigh-Anne Singer, Cape Chairperson – Fedhasa
