Convicted rapist, murderer Luyanda Botha set to testify in attempted rape case

The State alleges Luyanda Botha, who is responsible for the rape and murder of Uyinene Mrwetyana in 2019, visited Athlone Nursing College in June 2014 when he found a woman taking a bath and attempted to rape her.

CAPE TOWN - Convicted rapist Luyanda Botha, who is on trial for the attempted rape of a nursing student in 2014 is set to testify in court on Friday.

Botha is currently serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of 19-year-old Uyinene Mrwetyana in 2019.

The State alleges Botha visited Athlone Nursing College in June 2014 when he found the victim taking a bath and attempted to rape her.

Botha, who denies attacking the nursing student, made a Section 174 application to have the case against him withdrawn.

However, the application was denied after the court found enough evidence for the trial to proceed.
