'It's an absolute debacle': Unemployed battle to claim UIF

South Africans are facing huge issues when claiming from the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).

Lester Kiewit speaks with CapeTalk caller Douglas from Fish Hoek.

Douglas was unfortunately retrenched recently and has had to rely on the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).

He applied online for his UIF and did so successfully but heard nothing from them.

After trying to call and email, he went and stood outside the Department of Labour but they have had computer issues every time he has been there.

He says he has been to the department two or three times a week for the past three weeks, but to no avail.
