'South Korea is doing what no other country is doing' by deploying bedbug screening for everyone returning from the 2024 Paris Olympics, says Gilchrist.

The country has deployed its only bedbug sniffer beagle dog (Ceco) at its main Incheon International Airport to reduce the risk of the tiny insects entering the country when athletes, officials and fans return from the Olympics.

The pest control company has teamed up with South Korea's Department of Security and Transportation, and the Disease Control and Prevention Agency, and is working with airlines and Incheon Airport to screen travelers on arrival.

Little two-year-old Ceco can sweep a standard hotel room in under two minutes.

Ceco and his team were deployed on Friday (9 August) and will continue to work until 8 September.

South Korea's decision comes after authorities in Paris raced to contain a nationwide panic over bedbugs as the city geared up for the Olympics.

Some Parisian hotels had thrown out and stacked bedbug-infested beds outside their buildings.

"We can understand South Korea's choice especially when we can't help feeling a bit itchy just thinking about this," says Gilchrist.
