CAPE TOWN - A man arrested in connection with the murder of a five-year-old boy in Bishop Lavis is expected to appear in the local magistrates court on Friday.
Xavier Mitchell was stabbed to death last week.
The child was in the care of his nanny when tragedy struck.
The Bishop Lavis Community Policing Forum (CPF) has drawn up a petition hoping it'll ensure the accused remains behind bars.
So far, more than 1,000 people signed the petition.
Following the attack, police arrested a man in his forties, who is believed to be mentally challenged.
The CPF's Graham Lindhorst told EWN, the suspect appeared in court in absentia earlier this week and the case was postponed to Friday.
According to Lindhorst, the accused had to receive medical treatment, possibly for injuries he sustained when community members caught him before he was arrested by police.
