After a two-week probe instituted by the minister, a preliminary report has been finalised and handed to her.

CAPE TOWN - Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina is on Thursday expected to make public the preliminary findings of what led to the failure of three dams in Riverlands, exactly three weeks after the incident.

Majodina visited the Swartland region shortly after the privately owned farm dams collapsed, causing widespread flooding and forcing hundreds of out of their homes.

Water supply in the town is still cut off and the municipality previously indicated it would take six to eight weeks to restore running water in the area.

After a two-week probe instituted by the minister, a preliminary report has been finalised and handed to her.

Riverlands CPF chairperson, Ralph Burger, said that someone needed to be held responsible for the tragedy.

"We're looking forward to hearing what the minister has to say about who is responsible. Someone must be held responsible for this, not doing their work, not checking up on the dams, and who is going to take responsibility for the second flooding of the 17th."
