JOHANNESBURG - An independent investigator has been appointed to look into allegations of sexual misconduct against Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department chief Isaac Mapiyeye.
Mapiyeye has been placed on precautionary suspension following the surfacing of the allegations.
Earlier in September, the Ekurhuleni council authorised the city manager to begin the disciplinary process against Mapiyeye.
The city’s spokesperson Zweli Dlamini: “The city confirms the precautionary suspension of the chief of police as per a council resolution taken two weeks ago. The city has been authorised to get the services of an independent investigator to investigate the claims against the chief and report back to council in 30 days.”
