The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng has expressed its serious concern over the 'deliberate' attempts by the Democratic Alliance (DA) to create divisions between the ANC Gauteng Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC).
ANC Gauteng highlighted that the DA has repeatedly tried to foster a narrative of disunity within the party, attempting to portray the ANC Gauteng PEC as a rogue entity that consistently contradicts the NEC’s stance.
This situation has escalated following the recent ousting of former Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink, who was removed from his position after the ANC successfully tabled a motion of no confidence in the municipal council.
"It is really quite disturbing looking at the situation in Tshwane."
- Sanusha Naidu, Political analyst
Naidu notes that the current situation reflects the underlying tensions within the ANC, stemming from the challenges of the Government of National Unity (GNU) and unresolved issues from the 2022 elective conference.
She points out that these factors are causing a disconnect between the national and provincial structures of the party.
"I'm not saying that it's something that's surprising, but it's something that has been fermenting for a while."
- Sanusha Naidu, Political analyst
