South African para-cyclist Jonathan Pellow-Jarman does 2200km in 20 days in USA

Africa Melane and fitness guru Liezel van der Westhuizen explore the incredible journey of para-cyclist Jonathan Pellow-Jarman.

The 24-year-old South African para-cyclist grew up in Mooi River and went to Bridge House School.

Through school, he got into cycling and mountain biking and was always encouraged to explore the outdoors by his friends and family.

“He recently did the most incredible trip across the States where he covered 2200km in just 20 days, making it his first major travel experience outside of South Africa.”

He also recently became the second-ever para-athlete to compete in the Attakwas Extreme MTB in Oudtshoorn.

He has now put competing on the back burner; his sights are set on chasing adventure. 

“People’s love for cycling just grow. You go from being competitive to completing these exploring events. His personal tastes have changed. He values experiences over medals [and] the connections he's made over his travel.”
