Can fitting tracking devices like dash cams save you money?
A dash cam is an added security feature the buyer can install on a car and not necessarily a requirement from an insurer, or at least not from King Price, explains Ntuli.
'With King Price, it depends on the value of the vehicle and whether it's a high-risk vehicle or not,' adds Ntuli.
Does your monthly insurance premium decrease when you have a tracker? It might...
"It is likely that installation of a tracking device can reduce your monthly insurance premium but like I said, if it is not a requirement for your vehicle to have a tracking device, the reduction isn't significant."

Vehicles valued between R250,000 and R350,000 might require a dash cam or tracking device but this amount and vehicle type varies on what's considered 'high-risk' from your insurer.
At King Price, it's mostly double-cab bakkies and Toyotas, says Ntuli.
"If the vehicle requires a tracking device because it's high-risk in terms of theft or hijacking, it would be a requirement that your vehicle has a tracking device installed, if you don't install it then it just means you're not covered for theft and hijacking."
- Sakina Ntuli, Spokesperson - King Price Insurance
"If the tracking device is required for your vehicle then they [insurers] are within their rights to decline the claim. If you don't have it installed, you'd still be covered for the other peril but not theft and hijacking."
