CAPE TOWN - The Nedbank Golf Challenge, known as ‘Africa’s major’, is shaping up to be one of the year’s most exciting golfing spectacles.
From 5 - 8 December, the world’s finest players will converge on the legendary Gary Player Country Club at Sun City, showcasing exceptional talent and a rich mix of international and South African stars.
With a history dating back to 1981, the event continues to hold its place as one of the most prestigious tournaments on the DP World Tour.
SOUTH AFRICAN PRIDE AND RISING STARS
South African golf is well-represented in this year’s competition, with local heroes ready to challenge for glory on home soil.
- Thriston Lawrence, currently ranked 50th in the official world golf rankings, is in career-best form. With nine top-10 finishes this season and a standout fourth-place finish at the open, Lawrence aims to become the first South African winner since Branden Grace in 2017.
- Rising talents Robin Williams and Aldrich Potgieter bring youthful energy to the field. Williams, the 2023/24 Sunshine Tour Rookie of the Year, has already impressed internationally, while Potgieter holds the distinction of being the youngest-ever Korn Ferry Tour winner.
- Christo Lamprecht, fresh from his historic recognition as the Gary Player International Golfer of the Year, adds to the local excitement. Lamprecht’s accolades include a stellar collegiate career and appearances in elite events like the Open.

- Max Homa, the defending champion and six-time PGA Tour winner, will return to defend his title against a mix of seasoned pros and emerging stars.
- The United States is strongly represented, with Will Zalatoris making his long-anticipated debut, and Corey Conners bringing PGA Tour pedigree to Sun City.
- Europe’s charge is led by Luke Donald, fresh off his victorious captaincy in the 2023 Ryder Cup. Donald will be joined by Danish twins Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaard, rising stars on the DP World Tour.
Asian golf will have its rising star in Wenyi Ding, a 19-year-old sensation looking to make his mark on the professional stage. Ding’s debut adds a new dimension to the tournament, showcasing the global diversity of modern golf.
