The party has also announced that it will contest the 2026 local government elections alone and not under the ANC banner – something that has only happened once in the past.
On Wednesday, the party began its 5th special national conference, which will finalise the modalities of its election run.
SACP Secretary General Solly Mapaila said that the party is exercising its independence within the alliance.
“This thing that people [SACP deployees] must leave government, no, there is nothing like that. We are still in alliance. We took a decision in the elections, and we have revoked that decision now. We have the right to revoke that decision. It was taken by the central committee, now in this case taken by congress but after 22 years of engagement.”
