KZN disaster management teams on high alert as heavy rains pummel parts of the province

JOHANNESBURG - Disaster management teams are on high alert in Kwazulu-Natal as heavy rains hit large parts of the province.
The SA Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level 8 warning for disruptive rain which started on Sunday and is forecast to end on Wednesday.

The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) said the rain could also result in flooding, especially in low-lying areas.
KZN COGTA spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila said many areas could be impacted.
"The most affected areas are anticipated to be the districts of Ilembe, Umkhanyakude, King Cetshwayo, Zululand and Ugu, with other parts of the province also facing harsh weather conditions."
He added that motorists need to exercise extreme caution as roads are expected to be slippery.
