JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a special official Category 2 funeral to honour former education minister Sibusiso Bengu.
Professor Bengu, South Africa's first education minister, passed away last week at the age of 90.
Ramaphosa conveyed his condolences to the family and friends of Bengu, who also served as South Africa's ambassador to Germany in the late 90's to the early 2000's.
The funeral will be held at the University of Zululand in Kwazulu-Natal on Friday
Presidency Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya: "Proceedings will include ceremonial elements rendered by the South African Police Service, the president has directed that the national flag be flown at half mast, at flag stations around the country until the evening of the funeral."
