Manhunt for truck driver involved in deadly N3 accident

JOHANNESBURG - Police are searching for the driver of a truck involved in a deadly multi-vehicle crash on the N3 in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
 
It’s understood the driver fled the scene of the accident which claimed the lives of 18 people on Monday night.
 
The crash forced the closure of the busy route from Monday night into Tuesday morning.
 
It’s understood the truck was involved in the deadly pile-up with a taxi and a light motor vehicle.

Meanwhile, the department has ordered a full probe into the accident.
 
MEC Siboniso Duma said the results of the probe would assist the government with interventions needed for road safety.

This comes as poor weather conditions, including heavy mist and rain, have negatively impacted driving ability on the route.
 
The provincial department, however, said measures had been put in place over the festive season to ensure safety on the roads even during inclement weather.
