JOHANNESBURG - Joburg Water said it was working on maintaining the Roodepoort reservoir systems as the area battles access to water owing to aging infrastructure.
The system consists of one reservoir, three towers and three booster pumps that supply water to the areas including Florida, Maraisburg and Helderkruin.
The utility said that old systems have had a severe impact on its ability to supply water to its regions.
However, it's optimistic that a newly upgraded Florida North pump station would alleviate pressure.
Joburg Water mechanical manager, Theo Mhlom: "We get water from Rand Water and it supplies directly into the zones, but there are times when the demand is high, then that's when the pump station kicks in now and pumps the water into the tower and the water gravitate into the end user."
