DURBAN - Prolonged rainfall has led to the major destruction of public infrastructure and homes in parts of KwaZulu-Natal in the past week.
Since the beginning of January, the province has been rocked by severe rainfall which has caused significant damage, leaving some families destitute.
The harsh weather has also affected several projects, including the construction of roads.
Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma said that the government was still assessing the extent of the damage.
"At this point and time we don’t have the precision in terms of the information because from day to day, even right now in the northern side province, it is still raining. You’ll find that we identify four, the following day you’d be told that another has collapsed."
The department has promised to assist all affected citizens.
