CAPE TOWN - Charges against a City of Cape Town staffer arrested during a raid at the offices of Safety and Security MMC JP Smith's office, have been withdrawn.
The Hawks pounced on Smith and Energy MMC Xanthea Limberg's offices last week Friday.
The raid is in relation to the tender fraud case in the construction sector that is already before courts involving former Human Settlement MMC, Malusi Booi.
Louis Cason was arrested during last week's raid for defeating the ends of justice.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Cason said that claims that he attempted to destroy or hide evidence from the authorities were false.
He's referred to the claims as a deliberate misrepresentation of the facts to discredit JP Smith.
Cason said that he cooperated and complied with the Hawks officers throughout the raid, handing over all his electronic devices, passwords and PINs.
He said that he welcomed the withdrawal of the charges against him and he's grateful that justice has prevailed.
