JOHANNESBURG - An off-duty metro police officer was shot and killed in KwaThema in the City of Ekurhuleni on Thursday.
According to preliminary reports, two suspects stole the officers' private firearm in front of a spaza shop and shot him.
The City of Ekurhuleni says this murder happened shortly after another Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) traffic warden was killed last month.
The city’s spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, says they hope the suspects will be caught soon.
“We strongly condemn these senseless killings of officers. These are men and women that have taken it upon themselves to serve and protect our people and their property, yet they seem to become targets for criminals.”
