JOHANNESBURG – The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and Postbank have warned beneficiaries to practice caution when replacing their cards to prevent scams.
The entities announced 28 February 2025 as the deadline for replacing the SASSA yellow gold card with the new Postbank black card.
The replacement process began in September last year, introducing the new cards that offer enhanced security features and improved functionality.
SASSA and Postbank have warned that beneficiaries who fail to replace their cards by the deadline will not be able to access their grant payments
Postbank CEO Nikki Mbengashe explained: “Please go to your nearest checkers, Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Usave, or Boxer to find Postbank tellers who will be able to help you swap your card.”
Beneficiaries are urged to ensure that they only deal with authorized officials and keep their cards and IDs safe
“Please ensure that you bring your South African identity document for us to be able to verify you for the exchange of your card,” said Mbengashe.
