JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC)’s national working committee (NWC) is turning to veterans Mike Mabuyakhulu, Jeff Radebe, Amos Masondo and Hope Papo in a bid to rescue its provincial structures in both KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Gauteng.
EWN understands that the NWC, which held a meeting in Cape Town on Monday, has resolved to bring in Radebe as convener in KZN, while Masondo will lead Gauteng, alongside Panyaza Lesufi.
Mabuyakhulu, who stepped aside from his role as deputy provincial chairperson in the face of corruption allegations but has since been acquitted, will take on the role of coordinator in KZN.
Papo, who previously served as Gauteng’s secretary, will be appointed as its coordinator.
The ANC resolved to reconfigure its provincial executive committees (PEC) in the two provinces following their dismal performances in the 2024 general elections.

Mabuyakhulu is expected to take over from Bheki Mtolo in a reconfigured KZN PEC.
Meanwhile, Papo is set to take over from TK Nciza in Gauteng.
Papo previously served as deputy ANC president Paul Mashatile’s secretary, back when Mashatile was Gauteng's chairperson.
EWN has also seen a memorandum from the party’s secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, requesting a virtual meeting with the Gauteng PEC to inform them of the way forward.
