JOHANNESBURG - South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) chairperson Thembisile Xulu said they aimed to bolster treatment for vulnerable communities who do not have access to care.
Xulu spoke during the launch of the 1.1 million HIV treatment gap campaign in Soweto on Tuesday.
The campaign is part of the country's efforts to ensure as many people diagnosed with HIV receive and comply with antiretroviral therapy to achieve viral suppression.
Thembisile said that a significant number of people living with the virus faced many barriers that made it difficult for them to reach clinics, such as transport expenses.
"We know that key and vulnerable populations are not getting access to care and they are also a particular focus area. Most importantly, we know that adolescents and young people are in need of prevention, treatment, and care. So, SANAC has galvanised all the SANACs within all the provinces to make sure that everybody hits the ground running to find the 1.1."
