Mother of girl killed in crash involving Mogaila accuses Sekhukhune United of 'emotional abuse'

JOHANNESBURG - The mother of a nine-year-old girl killed in a car crash involving a Sekhukhune United footballer has broken her silence, accusing the team of emotional abuse.
In 2024, Keo Mavimbela was driving her daughter and a 13-year-old neighbour to school when Shaune Mogaila’s vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and slammed into the woman’s car.
Police said the footballer fled the scene, and drugs and alcohol were found in his vehicle.
Mogaila later handed himself over to police and appeared in court, where he was released on R20,000 bail.
Despite the tragedy, Mogaila quickly returned to the field, playing two matches and even winning the man of the match award last weekend.
Sekhukhune United claimed the Mavimbela family had given him their blessing, a statement his victim’s mother said was a lie.
"This person is lying. He has not spoken to my family since the ordeal. This is emotional abuse. I am shocked. I have not forgiven him. I just want to heal."
Mogaila is out on bail and is expected back in the Tembisa Magistrates Court on 19 May.
He faces charges of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and fleeing the scene.
