JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero said street vendors trading outside Bree taxi rank in the city’s CBD will be removed on Monday.
Morero made the announcement during a visit to various small businesses and taxi ranks in the area on Friday.
This was part of a high-impact service delivery operation in the inner city.
Several vendors operating on the streets of Johannesburg were asked to present their permits on Friday.
Morero said the traders have to be removed, as they are not in compliance with the bylaws.
He said they are a disadvantage for compliant shop owners who pay their rates to operate.
“Of the small business traders who are inside, they are all fully compliant. We are happy. We have no issues. The issue is those who are trading outside, which is not designated for trading. So, we'll have to deal with those ones and deal with them harshly.”
Morero added that law enforcement officials will be deployed to some areas to ensure bylaws are followed.
