JOHANNESBURG -Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya says she’s optimistic that South Africa’s G20 presidency will go a long way in addressing challenges faced by local government.

Moya made the comments at the launch of U20 in Tshwane on Monday.

Tshwane and Johannesburg will co-chair what is considered the local government leg of the G20 summit.

In a series of meetings set to be held during the year, Moya and Joburg Mayor Dada Morero are expected to host global leaders in a bid to find lasting solutions to a range of issues.

This includes economic growth, climate financing, social inclusion and digital transformation.

While Moya admitted that the task ahead was massive, she said that the cities would rise to the challenge.

"Johannesburg is the economic engine of South Africa, a city built on resilience, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Tshwane is the capital city, the centre of governance and policy, a knowledge hub, and a driver of national transformation. As co-hosts of U20 2025, our mission is clear: to ensure that the voice of African cities is heard on the world stage and that the priorities of the global south are brought into the G20 agenda."
