JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa and his Cabinet are set to visit the City of Johannesburg and the Gauteng government on Thursday as the metro continues to struggle with basic service delivery.
The visit is part of Cabinet’s engagement with all provinces to ensure aligned priorities at all spheres of government.
Ramaphosa’s two-day meeting with Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s team and Mayor Dada Morero will kick off at the Johannesburg council.
His visit to the country’s economic hub comes at a time when the city is grappling with significant challenges, including keeping traffic lights operational.
The city is also struggling with water supply issues, as deteriorating infrastructure and high demand continue to affect the availability of water.
Additionally, Morero previously made a controversial statement, telling residents not to expect too much from him in his role as mayor.
Earlier this week, Morero faced backlash on social media after announcing that the city would prioritise fixing traffic lights and potholes on routes used by international delegates attending the G20 Summit.
Ramaphosa is set to deliver the opening remarks during his meeting with Johannesburg and Gauteng management.
