JMPD nabs 7 heavily armed suspects in Eldorado Park

JOHANNESBURG - Metro police officers in Johannesburg have arrested seven heavily armed men, suspected to be linked to a string of armed robberies in Eldorado Park. 

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) said community members alerted officers patrolling the area of a suspicious car.

On Saturday evening, police intercepted the vehicle at the Golden Highway intersection and conducted a search and seizure where officers discovered a collection of illicit items including five unlicensed firearms, live ammunition and two knives.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said, “It was further discovered that the vehicle the suspects were using was stolen. All seven suspects were arrested and detained at Eldorado Park SAPS [South African Police Service], the stolen vehicle was seized and booked in at the SAPS Lenasia vehicle pound for further verification.  The suspects face charges of armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of a stolen vehicle.”
