KZN flooding: Over R600m is allocated to relieve the province

JOHANNESBURG - More than R600 million is set to be allocated to support municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal in their recovery from natural disasters.
Cooperative governance minister Velenkosini Hlabisa has confirmed that the allocation will be finalised in the coming weeks.
The province has faced numerous natural disasters over the last few years, with the most recent flooding resulting in 21 deaths.
Hlabisa says that the government is working on a plan to assist all municipalities with disaster management.
“In two weeks’, time, we will be having a joint meeting with all province and municipalities that received funding. Some of the fundings were transferred on the 5th of March and the other will be transferred on the first weeks of April to address disaster issues in South Africa.”
