KZN freak bus crash death toll rises to 9

JOHANNESBURG - The number of fatalities in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) bus crash has increased to nine people.
On Sunday, the 82 seater fell into a steep embankment on the N2 between Mandeni and Stanger.
At least 80 passengers were transported to different medical facilities with 12 people in critical condition.
Medical rescue team IPSS worked on a mass casualty scene where they rescued churchgoers from the wreckage.
The bus was travelling from Richards Bay to Shakaskraal had lost control due to a tyre burst.
IPSS spokesperson Samantha Meyrick says a three-year-old toddler was one of the people who lost their lives.
“Teams worked for hours to stabilise patients and move them to awaiting ambulances. All patients were transported to various hospitals and clinics in the north coast of KZN.”
The KZN Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma will visit the accident scene on Monday.
Moreover, a team from the Road Traffic Management Corporation and the South African Police Service have embarked on a probe to get to the bottom of the crash.
