City of Ekurhuleni offers condolences following fatal bus accident

JOHANNESBURG - The City of Ekurhuleni has extended its deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in a tragic bus accident near OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday morning.
The accident, which claimed 12 lives and left 45 others injured, occurred around 06:45am.
The injured victims were transported to OR Tambo, Tembisa, and Edenvale hospitals.
“We are at a loss for words. This is a devastating tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the deceased, and our prayers are with those who are recovering in various hospitals around the area,” said the MMC for Roads and Transport Planning in Ekurhuleni, Andile Mngwevu.
“To witness such devastation, many bodies lying around is deeply saddening. The city’s thoughts are with the families who expected their loved ones to return home later today. Our hearts are heavy.”
The MMC added that the city would do everything in its power to fully investigate the cause of the accident.
Police investigators and other stakeholders are combing the scene for any evidence that could help clarify the events. Initial findings have not confirmed whether other vehicles were involved in the crash.
