Bus accident claims 12 lives, leaves 45 injured

JOHANNESBURG - Twelve people have died in a bus crash on Wednesday morning near the OR Tambo International Airport.
According to officials, the accident took place on the R21 northbound freeway, adjacent to OR Tambo International Airport, when a bus jack-knifed and rolled several times.
The incident resulted in the tragic loss of 12 lives and left 45 individuals injured, including the bus driver. The deceased victims include nine males and three females, all adults.
The R21 northbound freeway remains completely closed as emergency services continue to manage the scene. The injured individuals have been transported to various hospitals for medical treatment.
William Ntladi, Media Liaison Officer for the City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services, stated that the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Emergency personnel are working to clear the area and assist those in need.
“The City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services is on the ground and will provide further updates as more information becomes available,” said Ntladi.
“At this time, our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those affected by this devastating event. Further details on the incident will be shared as the situation progresses,” he concluded.
