JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Health in Gauteng has committed to implementing recommendations of a report flagging poor service delivery at Helen Joseph Hospital.
The Health Ombud released the document on Monday after broadcaster Thomas Holmes exposed the dire state of the facility.

Holmes recorded a video in 2024 showing the hospital's dilapidated infrastructure.
The footage was widely circulated on social media and sparked public outrage.
The Health Ombud has found that only two of the claims made by Holmes are substantiated.
However, the ombud said there's truth to his claims of being kept for an extended period in the emergency ward and poor infrastructure at the hospital.
Department spokesperson Motaletale Modiba says they've noted the report.
“The reports provide clear recommendations on various areas such as governance, human resource management, finance and supply chain management, and infrastructure and maintenance. The department will fast-track the process to implement the recommendations as outlined by both the reports.”
