KwaZulu-Natal authorities are cracking down on reckless driving ahead of the busy Easter break.
The province’s transport department is expecting a hike in traffic volumes on its major routes from April the 2nd.
During this period the department says it anticipates about two thousand vehicles per hour to pass through tollgates in the province.
Spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya says road traffic inspectorate teams will take a firm, no-nonsense approach to law enforcement.
Several motorists have already appeared in court in recent days for drunk driving and speeding.
Sibiya warns that no one will be spared, stressing that reckless drivers, regardless of status, will be arrested.
"We remain determined to reduce road crashes and fatalities on our roads by building on a strong foundation we laid over the festive season,” said Sibiya.
