CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town is cautioning truck drivers of height restrictions at Govan Mbeki Road and Jan Smuts Drive traffic circle in Lansdowne.
It said that a temporary steel bridge had been installed over the northbound carriageway of Jan Smuts Drive to provide safe crossing for construction workers.
The height restriction is 4.3m and will be in place while the construction of the Sky Circle is ongoing, which is estimated to take about 18 months.
The construction of the Sky Circle is to ensure that MyCiTi bus services can connect Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha with Wynberg and Claremont.
MMC for Urban Mobility Rob Quintas said that commuters and pedestrians must be extra careful when approaching the circle.
"Warning gantries are in place on all four approaches to the traffic circle and it is vitally important that road users adhere to this restriction. Failure to do so will pose a high element of danger to workers and other motorists."
