JOHANNESBURG - Namibia’s first woman president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has pledged to fulfil the economic and social advancement agenda that Namibians have long strived to achieve.

She made the comment during her inauguration ceremony in the capital city of Windhoek on Friday.

Nandi-Ndaitwah’s historic ascent to the presidency coincided with the country’s 35th Independence Day anniversary.

During a live stream from the country’s broadcaster, NBC, the president also assured Namibians that her actions would be guided by the ruling party’s constitution.

"The mandate that the electorate gave to the SWAPO [South West Africa People's Organisation] Party under my leadership is clearly articulated in the SWAPO Party election manifesto 2025 to 2030, the SWAPO Party political programme, and the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia. Those will be my guiding instruments throughout my presidency."
