SIU's Mothibi says probe into awarding of visas to include 'lawyers, accountants, pastors'

JOHANNESBURG - The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) said its investigation into the awarding of visas covers professions including lawyers and pastors.

The forum is meant to centralise crime-fighting efforts involving civil society and traditional leaders.
Mothibi said that their investigation into visas that were awarded to foreigners entering the country was extensive.
"That investigation focuses on the issuance of permanent residence permits, corporate visas, business visas, critical and exceptional skills work visas, study visas, retired person’s visas as well, work visas, citizenship by naturalisation."
He said this investigation cuts through all professions.
"Whether lawyers, accountants, pastors and all of those, we will really look into all the sectors."
Mothibi said that 110 study visas had been flagged to be revoked and the investigations continue.
