JOHANNESBURG - The lights will remain on for South Africans, at least for now.
Eskom said it has successfully recovered four units along with an additional unit from a previous outage, bringing approximately 2,700 megawatts back online.
The power utility earlier this week warned of a high risk of load shedding due to several generation unit breakdowns.
“This has assisted us to navigate through the peak demand today without any system risks,” said Eskom’s spokesperson, Daphne Mokoena.
“However, while the system is currently stable, it remains constrained up until we recover more generation capacity. Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure this recovery is achieved as soon as possible.”
