Memorial service for murdered Soshanguve patrollers to get underway

JOHANNESBURG - Residents of the "Marry Me" informal settlement in Soshanguve are set to gather on Wednesday afternoon to remember the six patrollers who were killed in an attack over the weekend.
The memorial service is set to take place at 2pm.
Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya are set to be in attendance.
Residents of the informal settlement are still reeling after the weekend’s attacks where 12 patrollers were stoned, shot and set alight while doing their walkabout on Saturday night.
Four died on the scene, and two others have since succumbed to their injuries.
On Tuesday, police confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the case. They were found in Soshanguve with firearms and ammunition.
Gauteng government spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga said the memorial would be followed by an imbizo.
They will later, at 4 pm, be joined by the community in an imbizo where they will engage on various issues, with the issue of crime, unemployment and other social ills that the community top of the agenda.
On a visit to the area this week, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu said the Soshanguve police station will be receiving more resources.
