CAPE TOWN - The police's flying squad arrested two suspects for theft in Khayelitsha.

Members were tipped off about two suspects attempting to rob people on the Mew Way bridge.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Malcolm Pojie said officers tracked the suspects down to the N2.

"Upon noticing the members approaching, the suspects ran but were apprehended and searched. A pistol with two rounds of ammunition was found on one of the suspects. Both suspects, 36 and 43, were arrested and detained at Khayelitsha SAPS for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition."

The suspects will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court once charged.
