JOHANNESBURG - R7 million worth of counterfeit goods have been seized by police in the Tswane Metro following a tip-off from the community.

The operation led by the national counterfeit and illicit goods team targeted shops in Pretoria Central and Centurion.

Just last month, other operations conducted across various parts of the country saw the seizure of R43 million worth of fake goods.

Police spokesperson Amanda van Wyk says law enforcement is working to dismantle the illegal trade of bogus products to protect the economy.

"This week, our national counterfeit and illicit goods teams seized counterfeit goods worth more than R7 million. More than 2,000 items were seized that include high-end fake clothing, shoes, handbags, caps, watches, sunglasses, belts as well as toys."
