JOHANNESBURG - The City of Tshwane has assured its residents that technicians are in the final stages of restoring the Brakfontein substation, which was damaged by a fire earlier in April.
Parts of Centurion have been without electricity for almost two weeks.
The city said teams have been working around the clock despite facing significant challenges due to the severity of the damage to the equipment.
City spokesperson Lindela Mashigo added that the theft of infrastructure had also resulted in delays.
“So far, five of the eight panels on the southern board have passed the rigorous equipment tests that have been conducted by the team as part of the tedious commissioning process. The team is now attending the three panels that failed the test in order to address the faults on the network. Unfortunately, the team is unable to energise the five panels that are ready, as work is continuing on the other three panels.”
