CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape is calling on the national government to give clear direction on how it plans to improve the social grant payment system.
The deadline for South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) beneficiaries to replace their gold cards has been extended beyond the 31 May deadline.
However, beneficiaries are urged to switch to the new Postbank black cards as soon as possible.
The DA said while it remains concerned about the national government's handling of the process, it's encouraged that the worst outcome for the people has been prevented.
"We will continue working to protect the dignity and rights of every grant recipient in the Western Cape. The DA remains committed to constructive oversight and results-driven governance. In the Western Cape, we have shown that proactive leadership can shield the most vulnerable from chaos and neglect."
