CAPE TOWN - Social grant beneficiaries who applied for the grant using temporary IDs or other forms of identification might not get their May payouts if they fail to verify their details with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).
The social security agency is on a nationwide identity verification and eligibility review process.
It's aimed at giving the select group of about 20,000 social grant beneficiaries a chance to update their personal details.
SASSA said that beneficiaries who failed to come forward during this process may have their social grants suspended.
The agency’s national spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi, added that if those affected failed to verify their details, they may not receive their grants.
"People who are getting their social grants, who have valid IDs, do not have to panic or to come forward and make the verification. It's people who have the temporary method or alternative methods of identification only. We just want people not to panic and come to SASSA offices saying they heard us saying they must come verify themselves."
