JOHANNESBURG - Twenty-two police officers have been murdered during the first three months of this year, nine more than in the previous quarter.

Thurday’s address was Lebeya’s final briefing as his seven-year term comes to an end in May.

He said that two metro police officials were also killed during the fourth quarter.

"Sixteen were off duty while six were on duty. Fifty percent of these murders happened in Gauteng. Thirty-eight arrests were effected and 14 convictions with 11 life imprisonment sentences plus 487 years imprisonment were secured."
