Hawks secured 293 convictions for serious crimes in first three months of 2025 - Lebeya

JOHANNESBURG - The Hawks said they secured 293 convictions in the first three months of this year for serious crimes.
Hawks head, Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya, made the announcement at a media briefing on Thursday.
It was his final one as Hawks head.
His seven-year term comes to an end in May.
The Hawks have hailed the conviction of 293 suspects in the country's courts in the fourth quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year.
But these were for arrests made months and even years ago.
266 of those convicted were also sentenced.
Outgoing Hawks head, Lebeya, said that most of the convictions and sentences were in Gauteng.
"Of these convictions, the Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) secured 157, Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCI) secured 73 and Serious Corruption Investigation (SCI) secured nine."
At the same time, Lebeya said that 656 suspects were arrested during the fourth quarter.
