JOHANNESBURG - As the country observes Child Protection Month, some children in Free State said they’re worried that there is poor law enforcement on child-related crimes.
This is according to a recent poll done by the Department of Social Development in the province.
Minister of Social Development Sisisi Tolashe launched one of several child protection campaigns in Thaba Nchu earlier on Sunday, where she addressed challenges affecting child safety in the country.
The month-long child protection campaigns launched by the Department of Social Development are part of ongoing efforts to address challenges faced by children.
These include child abuse, teenage pregnancy, child trafficking, and exploitation.
The department’s Cynthia Nyoni said since the start of May, they have gathered data from the province that reveals more needs to be done to strengthen policing.
“They really need to see law enforcement playing its role by making sure that those who are perpetrators are being brought to book.”
Nyoni said that they will be strategising on how they will partner up with law enforcement agents to ensure these demands are met.
