JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng government said it was "confident" National Treasury will allow the rollover of some of its unspent funds to the next financial year.
The provincial government has underspent its budget allocation by R1.8 billion.
However, R1.4 billion of this money will return to the province for reallocation, while the rest was at risk of being forfeited to the Treasury.

Speaking at a media briefing on Monday, Gauteng Finance MEC Lebogang Maile said that the provincial government had made motivations to Treasury for the R295 million to be rolled over.
"If they are not approved [applications for rollovers], it means we would have lost R400 million but we are confident because we have done our own due diligence, that's why we are recommending that specific figure because the other applications in the view of provincial Treasury did not meet the requirement for rollover applications."
